Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O’Brien, is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm & Fire Protection Design Engineer for a long-term independent contractor engagement. This is an ongoing contractual engagement with a US-based company and is not limited to a single project. The role involves continuous collaboration across multiple mission-critical projects, based on business needs. You will provide services as an independent, self-employed professionalunder a formal independent contractor agreement.

Role Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm & Fire Protection Design Engineer to support the design and coordination of cutting-edge data center projects across the U.S. In this role, you will be responsible for modeling, designing, and analyzing fire protection systems, including fire suppression, fire detection, and life safety systems. You will prepare engineering calculations, layouts, and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, contributing across the full project lifecycle from schematic design through execution. Strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
- Using Autodesk Revit (required) to model fire alarm and fire protection systems and coordinate with other disciplines.
- Developing a thorough understanding and delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule.
- Determining and expediting engineering deliverables for projects.
- Developing and maintaining project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during design evolution.
- Designing fire protection systems including fire suppression (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge systems), fire detection and alarm systems, and life safety systems.
- Preparing engineering calculations, hydraulic calculations, schematic designs, and detailed designs.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable fire protection codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC, IFC).
- Preparing technical documentation required for project execution, including design criteria, calculations, specifications, and equipment data sheets.
- Reviewing shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent.
- Producing models and drawings in BIM and CAD tools.
- Performing occasional site visits to support construction progress (valid U.S. work visa considered an asset but not required).
Qualifications & Experience:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (fire protection, fire alarms, electrical, mechanical, or related field).
- At least 4−5 years of experience in fire alarm and fire protection design.
- Proven expertise in the design of fire alarm, fire protection, and/or life safety systems.
- Knowledge of fire protection codes and standards (NFPA, IBC, IFC, FM Global is a plus).
- Written and spoken English B1 and higher.
- Hands-on experience with Autodesk Revit is required.
- Experience in designing systems for industrial, commercial, or mission-critical projects.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize while meeting project deadlines.
- Self-starter, ambitious, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
